On Saturday, April 26th, the PVFD provided a demonstration on patient extraction using the many tools available to them when faced with a car accident with a patient trapped inside or under the vehicle. They used the “Jaws of Life” and air bags to raise the car off the patient trapped under a vehicle, who was then stabilized for transportation. They also used other heavy duty hydraulic tools like cutters and spreaders, as well as manual tools to demonstrate how to remove car doors, roofs and also demonstrated how to cut out a 3rd door option on a 2 door car. These techniques are deployed to provide Emergency Service personnel easy access to anyone inside the vehicle.

While this was taking place, Chief McCarthy provided narrative information to those watching, so they would understand what was taking place and why/how the tools are used. It was very informative and the adults and kids enjoyed to demo.

NYSEG was on hand to show the impact live wires have on various objects and why it's so very important not to touch or get close to down wires. They demonstrated the effects on rubber boots, ladders, bolt cutters, which are all items firemen would use. So don't touch it until NYSEG is on site!!
