On Friday, April 18, 2025 at approximately 1:15PM the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire in the vicinity of 926 Peekskill Hollow Road. Upon arrival it was discovered that a large brush fire had started under the power lines located in that area. The fire started to spread rapidly due to high winds, dry leaves and vegetation. Due to the steep and rocky terrain, access to the affected areas was difficult. Given the hazards of the situation, manpower and apparatus from neighboring agencies were requested to assist in fireground operations. Arriving crews work tirelessly to extinguish the spreading fire while also establishing a significant fire line to minimize and prevent it’s spread. All units were accounted for and back in service by 7:30PM. At that time, the fire affected approx. 19 acres of wooded area. Resources from the New York State DEC Forest Rangers as well as Putnam Valley Fire personnel monitored the area in that night and throughout the weekend.
