Putnam Valley Fire Department held their certification class on Sunday, 2/23 for CPR/AED BLS Training. It was well attended, with over 30 members in the class. While covering the basics of CPR, and the use of the AED, there was also hands on use of the Lucas device. This device is a mechanical chest compression device that helps First Responders deliver consistent chest compressions to sudden cardiac arrest patients; in the field, on the move and in the hospital.
Included in the training session, was an in-house demonstration of how CPR would be performed on a firefighter in full turnout gear. Working as a team, CPR is in progress, while other team members simultaneously work to remove the turnout gear. This is life saving technic that should be practiced on a regular basis.
